Monster Moto Shield Dual VNH2SP30 Motor Driver Module 30A

Monster Moto Shield uses VNH2SP30 full-bridge motor drivers. We’ve also beefed up the support circuitry so this board is capable of driving a pair of high-current motors!

  • Voltage max: 16V
  • Maximum current rating: 30 A
  • Practical Continuous Current: 14 A
  • Current sensing available to Arduino analog pin
  • MOSFET on-resistance: 19 mΩ (per leg)
  • Thermal Shutdown

Monster Moto Shield uses VNH2SP30 dual high-power motor drivers are compact carriers for the VNH3SP30 and VNH2SP30 motor driver integrated circuits from ST. The board incorporates most of the components of the typical application diagram on page 8 of the VNH2SP30 datasheet, including pull-up and current-limiting resistors and a FET for reverse battery protection. (The current sense circuit might not be populated on the VNH3SP30 version of the board since only the VNH2SP30 supports current sense.) To keep the number of I/O lines down, the two enable/diagnostic lines on each chip are tied together. All you need to add is a microcontroller or other control circuit to turn the H-Bridges on and off.

Note: When using this board in extreme high-demand applications it may be necessary to improve thermal performance with a heat-sink or fan and to solder the wires directly to the board instead of using a screw terminal (in addition to the myriad other complications present in a high-current system) However, when using the board at currents up to 6A the chips will barely become noticeably warm.
